CSD Car Purchase : Change in Entitlement for all Ranks

Recently Ministry of Defence issued guidelines regarding entitlement of purchase of Car from CSD from time to time.  Entitlement of four wheeler through CSD for all ranks has been revised which is effected from 01 January 2023.  Authority : 95350/Q/DDGCS/CAR/POLICY dated 30 Nov 2020. Details of category/rank wise entitlement are as under:

Maximum cost of Vehicle allowed :  Rs 8 Lakh (Petrol and Diesel Vehicle) (Excluding Taxes). Rs 13 lakh ( Electric Vehcle) (Excluding Taxes). Road Tax and other expenes not included in this amount.

Beneficiaries of category 1 may purchase First car in service and Second car after Retirement. First car after five years of service.  Gap between purchases of two cars to be eight years.

For Widows of Category 1 :  If the late husband had purchased a car each while in service and after retirement then the widow will not be eligible to buy a car. In case late husband had purchased only one car while inservice, then widow can by one car through CSD after a gap of eight years from the date of lastpurchase.

For Nb Sub to Sub Maj /Equivalent Ranks

Category 2 :  For Nb Sub to Sub Maj and equivalent rank of IAF & IN (Pay level 6 to 9) including retired & widows.

Maximum cost of Vehicle allowed :  Rs 10 Lakh (Petrol and Diesel Vehicle) (Excluding Taxes). Rs 15 lakh ( Electric Vehcle) (Excluding Taxes). Road Tax and other expenes not included in this amount.

Beneficiaries of category 1 may purchase first car as an OR, Second car on promotion as JCO and third car after retirement. First car after five years of service.  Gap between purchases of two cars to be eight years.

For Widows of Category 2, if the late husband had purchased car each whole in service as well as after retirement then the widow will not be eligible to buy a car.  In case late husband had purchased car(s) only while in service. then widow can buy one car through CSD after a gap of eight years from the date of last purchase.


For Armed Forces Officers of Pay Level 10 to 18 

Maximum cost of Vehicle allowed :  Rs 20 Lakh (Petrol and Diesel Vehicle) (Excluding Taxes). Rs 25 lakh ( Electric Vehcle) (Excluding Taxes). Road Tax and other expenes not included in this amount.

Officers of pay level 10 to 18 (including retired & widows) years may purchase a car in every 8 years and the maximum cost of the car as mentioned above.

For Serving and retired Defence Civilian officers of Pay Level 10 to 18 

Maximum cost of Vehicle allowed :  Rs 20 Lakh (Petrol and Diesel Vehicle) (Excluding Taxes). Rs 25 lakh ( Electric Vehcle) (Excluding Taxes). Road Tax and other expenes not included in this amount.

Defence civilian Officers including retired and family pensioners of pay level 10 to 18 may purchase a car in every 8 years and the maximum cost of the car as mentioned above.

This revised entitlement supersedes CS Dte letter No 95350/Q/DDGCS/CAR/POLICY dated 27 Oct 2020.
