Subedar Major Durgesh Singh has today been appointed as the Army Subedar Major. Instituted on 16 June 2023, this appointment serves as a vital bridge between the Army’s senior leadership and the rank and file. He is the second junior leader to hold this prestigious post, succeeding Subedar Major & Hony Lieutenant Gopa Kumar S.
The appointment of Subedar Majors has now been instituted at all levels from Battalions, Brigades, Divisions, Corps, Command & Army Headquarters. They play a pivotal role in soldier welfare and training, while preserving regimental ethos, strengthening morale and the soldier–leadership connect across the Indian Army.
