The places of historical / cultural / archaeological importance are declared protected under Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act 1958, amended and validated in 2010. The protected monuments are maintained properly by the Archaeological Survey of India. There are 3676 centrally protected monuments under the Archaeological Survey of India. The details of protected monuments in the country are given in annexure. The protected monuments are in a good state of preservation. The conservation work at these monuments is attended regularly depending upon the availability of resources and need of the repairs. Annexure Protected Monuments under Archaeological Survey of India
