Army Jawan commits suicide in Mamun Cantt near Pathankot

PATHANKOT:  An Army Jawan committed  suicide  by shooting himself in the head  with his service weapon  at Mamun Cantonment near here   on  Saturday  afternoon while he was on duty .

Mamun Cantonment  Police Station ASI  Babu Ram  said ,Army Jawan Kadam  Satish  Chandra (25)  who  belonged to Maratha Regiment   and hailed from Shelkedav village , falling in Sangli  district of Maharshtra  had joined his security duty  at 12 noon on  Saturday  and about 12 .15  he shot himself in his  head with his   assault rifle and  died on the spot .

According to the police while  the Army Jawan was married last year and had come after  spending  holiday with his  family at his native village  and rejoined his duty  on March 16, 2012 ,  his friends  said he was  depressed  after his return from his home.

The police said his body would be sent for post mortem  at Pathankot  on Sunday  morning  before  it is handed over to his family members who are expected to arrive on the same day .

It is second incident of suicide by  an Army jawan in the last 15 days. Earlier on March 2   , Army Jawan Arun Saini , aged 27  ,  of 12JAK  Li Regement   had committed suicide ,  while on duty .
