New Delhi, September 7
The Seventh Pay Commission, which will decide the quantum of salaries and pensions for Central government employees, will visit Ladakh to assess day-to-day hardships faced by Indian troops in protecting the frontiers facing Pakistan and China.
The commission, headed by Justice AK Mathur, has planned a four-day visit to Leh and Srinagar from September 15.
Ladakh is where the Army and the Air Force have a presence along the Line of Control (LoC) with China and Siachen Glacier. The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) is tasked along with the Army for the protection of posts along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
The Dras-Kargil-Batalik sector on the LoC facing Pakistan is protected by the Army and the IAF.
The Indian troops pasted at the glacier get high-altitude allowance and special Siachen allowance. The panel will study hardships by the troops and consider them while deciding the quantum of these allowances.
