OROP decoded: Know how Army veterans planning to put Modi govt on the mat

Indian Military Veterans
New Delhi, July 1: It looks like Modi government's cup of woes will not get over anytime soon. Already on the back-foot over alleged collusion of its ministers in Lalitgate controversy, this is yet another trouble for the BJP government.
OROP: Know Army veterans' new plan

Reports say that Army veterans are now planning to take their fight of one rank one pension war to another level. Peeved over the way the government is dilly-dallying the scheme, ex-servicemen have chalked out some other alternative plans for the same.
These veterans believe that since government doesn't look in the mood to give specific date to implement the pension scheme, we have to resort new tactics to make government oblige us.

 What are they planning?

According to a ET report, United Front of ex-servicemen, a conglomerate of all veterans' has decided to hold protest in front of the house of the parliamentarians It has also been decided that various teams of these veterans will be formed. These teams will visit election-bound states and discourage potential voters to vote against Modi government. Another step is, people will be made aware about the scheme and veteran's genuine demand. Lastly, if nothing will work then war widows will send letters in blood to President along with their bangles. Sources says these widows may begin a fast unto death if government remains adamant on its position.

Reactions of Army veterans

On asking about the move, spokesperson of the Indian Exservicemen Movement Colonel (retd) Devinder Bahl was quoted by the newspaper as saying, "The government is not realising the demoralising effect that its ignorance is causing on servicemen across the country". Indian ex-Servicemen Movement chairman Maj. Gen. Satbir Singh (retd) said, "We will go to Patna, and all other poll-bound states and scale up the agitation". He further said, "What does it mean when reports say the government is planning to implement scheme before Bihar election? Do they think this will make us vote for them".

Hunger strike continues in different part of the country

Dismayed over the lackadaisical approach of the Government, these Army veterans have been protesting at the Delhi's Jantar Mantar since last month. Similar protest and hunger strike have been reported from pther parts of the country. The grudge of the army personnels is that why government is not giving specific date for the scheme. Recently, many of the Modi ministers including Manohar Parrikar assured but didn't give time frame for the same.
