Defence ministry seeks CBI enquiry against two serving major generals

The defence ministry, in what could be a possible first, has asked the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to investigate two serving major generals on account of bribery and possessing disproportionate assets on Thursday. Reportedly, Major General S.S. Lamba of the Army Service Corps (ASC) and Major General Ashok Kumar of the Army Ordinance Corps (AOC) are the two officers taken under the scanner. According to sources, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar has written to CBI for the probe. This action has been taken keeping in the view the complaints received against the two officers, added sources. Both the officers are Ati Vishisht Seva Medal awardees, the second highest decoration for distinguished service, in 2015. In the past too, the Indian Army has proceeded against several officers - some as senior as lieutenant generals - but these have been in the shape of in-house General Courts Martia
