*Hijack Of OROP*
The very idea of OROP is to take care of the non commissioned ranks who are forced to retired at a relatively young age in order to uphold the policy of keeping the Armed Forces young and able.
The non commissioned people, especially from the army, who are retired at 35 plus years of age find it difficult to get a job in the civil aa their experience in the forces is not valid in the civil. And they end up leading a miserable life.
Now, the very concept of OROP has been hijacked by a set of selfish permanent commissioned officers officers who enjoyed the benefits in service till 55+ years age.
The description 'PERMANENT COMMISSION" is self explanatory. They are permanently employed in the Navy till super annuation and have nothing to lose with the policy of KEEPING THE ARMED FORCES YOUNG. Though, they are retired on papers at the age of 54 if they do not attain a certain rank, they are re-employed till the age of 58 and hence enjoy the salary and benefits/perks as for 35 years and more like any civilian goverment servant. Then why OROP for them?
Why should an Admiral/General/Air Marshal who enjoys the benefits of service till 62 years age be equated with a Sailor/Sepoy/Airman who is forced to retire at 34/35 years age in the name of "Keeping the Services Young".
The idea of OROP was for benefitting such people who gave the youth in service of the country and are suddenly helpless on being retired at a relatively young age and now that has been hijacked.
The Government and its bureaucrats, who know nothing of the way the armed forces function, got carried away by the rhetoric and claims of the Permanent Commissioned Officers. The Government also thought it to be an ideal way of saving money.
Today, the major chunk of the OROP is consumed by the Permanent Commissioned Officers who are less than 10% of the Armed Forces while the non commissioned officers who are forcefully retired at a young age and form the remaining 90% and actually deserve the OROP have been left in the lurch.
YES EXACTLY. WHO WILL BELL THE CAT? BUT IT SHOULD BE REFORMED.
