 Life Certificate for Pensioners

A Life Certificate—also called a Jeevan Pramaan (Digital Life Certificate)—is an annual proof‑of‑life document required for pensioners in India to continue receiving pension. It can be submitted physically or digitally via Aadhaar‑based biometric authentication, including through the Jeevan Pramaan app. Upstox+1

What Is a Life Certificate?

  • A mandatory annual declaration confirming that a pensioner is alive.
  • Required by central, state, defence, EPS‑95, and other government pensioners. CAclubindia
  • Can be submitted physically at banks/post offices or digitally as a Digital Life Certificate (DLC) via Jeevan Pramaan. jeevanpramaan.gov.in

Digital Life Certificate (Jeevan Pramaan)

  • Aadhaar‑based, biometric‑enabled certificate generated electronically.
  • Pension Disbursing Agencies (PDAs) access it directly from the central repository—no paper needed. Upstox
  • Eliminates the need for pensioners to visit banks physically, reducing hardship for elderly and infirm pensioners. jeevanpramaan.gov.in

Who Must Submit It?

  • All government pensioners (central, state, PSU, defence, EPFO) must submit annually.
  • Family pensioners and EPS‑95 pensioners also require it, sometimes with additional declarations. CAclubindia

Key Dates (Typical Annual Schedule)

  • Pensioners aged 80+: Eligible to submit from October 1 each year. Mint
  • Other pensioners: Usually submit from November 1 to November 30. Upstox
  • Dates may vary each year depending on DoPPW notifications.

  • Authenticate via fingerprint/iris and generate DLC. Upstox

Option 3: Physical Submission
