HYDERABAD: As many as 175 flying cadets, including 30 women passed out from the Air Force Academy, Dundigal, to join their respective branches in the Indian Air Force on Thursday.
Chief of Army Staff General V K Singh reviewed the combined graduation parade at the academy. The parade marked the culmination of one-year training of the cadets at the Air Force Academy Dundigal, Air Force Station Hakimpet, Air Force Station Yelahanka, Air Force Station Begumpet and Air Force Administrative College Coimbatore. In his address to the newly commissioned officers, the Chief of Army Staff said that the security scenario in the region in the last few years had necessitated the induction of very sophisticated and costly equipment in the Armed Forces. "Though the need for such a step was long felt, it could not be fulfilled due to resource constraints," he said.
Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Training Command Air Marshal Dheeraj Kukreja and the Commandant of the Academy Air Marshal PR Sharma received the Chief of Army Staff at the academy. Flying officer Varun Agarwal was awarded the President's Plaque and Chief of Air Staff's 'Sword of Honour' for standing first in overall order of merit in pilot course. Flying officer Kamal Kumar Mishra was awarded the President's Plaque for standing first in overall order of merit in ground duty branch. Aerobatic display of Sukhoi-30 aircrafts and dare devil display by Akashganga paratroopers were the major attractions at the parade.
