The Railways will recruit 1.52 lakh new employees in a phased manner to run its work efficiently. Union minister of state (MoS) for Railways Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury stated this during his visit to Rail Coach Factory (RCF) here today.
To a query regarding the recent hike of 5.7 per cent in freight charges to be implemented from April 1, Chowdhury termed the hike necessary. He stated that the Railways was left with no option but to make this hike for providing better facilities to the general public.
He stated that the Railways was bearing the burden of Rs 25,000 crores per annum for providing cheaper journey to its passengers. It was for this reason that the department decided to hike the freight rates.
Chowdhury said a number of prestigious projects were in the pipeline and the department required Rs. 4.5 lakh crore to materialise these.
It will take a few months to install Anubhuti coaches in some trains, he said.
