Fill vacancies through regular appointments, they demand

The Tamil Nadu Government Employees Association members staged a demonstration at the new bus stand here on Tuesday calling for regularisation of appointments among a charter of other demands.

The main demand included filling of over 4 lakh vacancies through regular appointments and scrapping of outsourcing of jobs, temporary, contractual and daily wage labour.

C.P.Jayaraman, district secretary, TNGEA, Krishnagiri, said that the vacancies should be filled through regular time-scale postings.

Outsourcing of jobs, consolidated appointments and contractual labour under practice in the Government departments should be scrapped.

The protestors also called for scrapping of the new pension scheme, and continuance of the old scheme. Calling for the implementation of 7th Pay Commission recommendations, the Government employees association office-bearers demanded that the State Government employees be placed on a par with the Central Government employees in terms of pay scale.

Interim relief

Alleging that the Centre had diluted labour welfare policies, the TNGEA called for providing an interim relief of 10 per cent until such time the 7th pay commission was implemented.

The protestors also called for linking up of 50 per cent of dearness allowance to the basic pay.
