NON IMPLEMENTATION OF OROP
RELAY HUNGER STRIKE AT JANTAR MANTAR NEW DELHI AND OTHER LOCATIONS
Dear Friends,
1. Today is the 31st Day of Relay Hunger Strike at Jantar Mantar and many other locations in the country. The Govt has not responded for implementation of OROP as per the approved definition and without any dilution and fixing the date on which it will be implemented. It is sad and against the interest of Security of the Nation that Govt, after giving assurances to the Defence Personnel of early implementation of OROP has delayed it so long and still dragging its feet.
2. On 8th July 2015, Addl Solicitor General Mrs. Pinki Anand had stated before the bench in SC that OROP will be implemented in 3 – 4 days. This assurance has not been honoured by the Govt.
3. The Relay Hunger Strike will go on till the implementation letter is issued by the Govt. Our Agitation will be intensified with effect from 23th July 2015.
4. Officers, in course batches, are visiting Jantar Mantar New Delhi and sitting on Hunger Strike. They are also generously donating funds for the Logistic Management of the Agitation. Ex-Servicemen in large number are also coming to Jantar Mantar daily and supporting the cause. One can feel the motivation and feelings of the Ex-Servicemen on Relay Hunger Strike.
5. Retired Chiefs and the Army Commanders of the three services are specially requested to visit Jantar Mantar to express solidarity with the ESM on relay Hunger Strike.
6. The Govts of the day have downgraded & degraded Military in status, pay, allowances and pensions for the past 67 years. As opined by the Koshyari Committee of Rajay Sabha on OROP it was an unwise decision to club defence personnel with the civilian employees in 1973. Consequently, the pensions of JCOs/ORs were reduced from 70 percent of the last pay drawn to 50 percent and the bureaucrats increased their pensions from 33 percent to 50 percent. The decline set in thereafter. There are over 39 serious anomalies in our Pay, Allowances and pensions.
7. Our demand for having a separate pay commission was not accepted. Even our member was not included in the Pay Commission inspite of numerous requests by the Chiefs. We need to rise to the situation and get our status, Pay, Allowances &Pension restored to as existed on 26th Jan 1950. Please Join the Struggle.
8. Let us all join to strengthen the Protest Movement across the country.
“Heads, Hands & Shoulder………..Together”
With Regards,
Yours Sincerely,
Maj Gen Satbir Singh, SM (Retd)
