PM Modi's 'volte-face' on OROP is 'unfortunate', says Tarun Gogoi

PM Modi's 'volte-face' on OROP is ' Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Thursday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi's assurance and then "volte-face" on implementing the One Rank One Pension policy for ex-servicemen was "unfortunate". In a statement in Guwahati, Gogoi termed the development as "unfortunate" and said, "Our war heroes who fought for the sovereignty and national integrity had to resort to hunger strike for 147 days." He noted that the situation had come to such a pass that the ex-servicemen even returned the honour and recognitions they earned during their service life. "The ex-servicemen, who are known for adherence to strict discipline, resorting to collective agitation is very unfamiliar with the history of the nation. Even letting them feel that they are suffering from injustice is indeed uncalled for," Gogoi said. He called upon the Prime Minister not to "demean the demand of the ex-servicemen and execute his assurance". PTI
